What We Do

Victim-Centered Restorative Justice

Restorative justice is a process that gives crime victims a structured, safe way to be heard, ask questions, and find a path forward on their own terms.

Our approach — Victim-Centered Restorative Justice Practice — anchors care and concern for the victim and survivor as the primary focus. It ensures victims are informed and have choice, safety, and support at every step.

Our Services

Specialized services for accountability, awareness, and repair

North Star provides specialized services designed to promote accountability, deepen victim awareness, and support trauma-informed practices within justice and community systems. Our work is grounded in integrity, professionalism, and a steadfast commitment to victim-centered approaches.

Small Groups

Small Group Accountability & Victim Impact Sessions

North Star facilitates structured small groups (10 or fewer participants) for justice-involved individuals focused on accountability, meaningful reflection, and victim impact awareness. These guided sessions create a respectful environment where participants are encouraged to examine the full impact of their actions and take responsibility in a constructive and intentional way.

Through facilitated dialogue and structured exercises, individuals explore:

  • Accountability beyond legal consequences
  • The emotional, financial, and long-term impact of harm
  • Empathy development and victim awareness
  • Personal responsibility and pathways toward repair
Apology Letters

Apology Letter Development

In addition to broader discussions, North Star offers focused sessions dedicated to the development of meaningful apology letters to victims and survivors. Participants receive structured guidance to ensure letters reflect genuine accountability and avoid minimization, justification, or blame-shifting.

Emphasis is placed on:

  • Clear acknowledgment of responsibility
  • Recognition of the specific harm caused
  • Authentic expression of remorse
  • Respectful and appropriate communication

All group facilitation is conducted with care, professionalism, and attention to emotional safety, centering the dignity and experiences of victims and survivors.

Training

Training & Professional Development

In addition to direct service facilitation, North Star's subject matter experts design and deliver customized trainings and workshops for agencies, organizations, and community partners. Trainings range from introductory sessions that build foundational knowledge to advanced workshops that strengthen professional practice and implementation strategies.
